OTV (Veolia) Successful bid for the construction of the new waste water treatment plant at Cagnes-sur-Mer (06)

At the end of 2015, OTV (Veolia), one of numerous bidders, replied to a tender offer launched by Symisca (an association of local authorities) for the construction of the new Cagnes-sur-Mer waste water treatment plant with an offer including Orège’s SLG® solution.

Symisca, which comprises the Nice-Côte d’Azur metropolis and the communes of Villeneuve-Loubet, La Colle-sur-Loup and Saint-Paul-de-Vence, gave the running of the design-build-operate-maintain (DBOM) project for the future 150 000 population equivalents waste water treatment plant to a group bid lead by OTV.

Symisca wanted to have extremely high performing equipment both in connection with the water quality and in connection with sludge recycling. This future waste water treatment plant will be the first of its kind in France as the DBOM project group has the objective of obtaining « very good » BREEAM certification on the new plant which will also be the first positive energy plant in the region.

It is in the context of this innovative spirit that Orège will implement several SLG® solutions in this new waste water treatment plant.

This new reference for municipal sludge treatment is testament to the capacity of the breakthrough technology SLG® to be integrated in ambitious projects for the design and build of the new waste water treatment plants of the future.

The SLG®: A technology that has revolutionized sludge treatment

The SLG® (solid, liquid, gas) is an innovative technology for the treatment and conditioning of sludge.

Installing the SLG® on the sludge treatment line on wastewater treatment plants, both industrial and urban, considerably improves performance.

Thanks to this breakthrough technology the sludge volumes are significantly reduced and physical, chemical and rheological properties of the sludge are modified:

  • Marked reduction in the volume of sludge produced and, consequently, reduction in cost of treatment of up to 60%.
  • Elimination of sludge odors.
  • Improvement in sludge quality for valorisation, in particular for manuring and composting.
  • Significant decrease in energy consumption of the sludge treatment line and the wastewater treatment plant in general.
  • Notable reduction in polymer consumption and oxidizing reagents (ozone, oxygen etc.) relating to the operation of the wastewater treatment plant.
  • Significant increase in sludge thickening according to needs and context.
  • Improved efficiency of anaerobic digestion.
  • Extremely good quality of water recovered (centrate): total suspended matter (TSM) < 100 mg/l.
  • Oxidation-reduction potential (Redox) increased by at least + 100 mV, …

These technical, environmental and social performances lead to non-negligible savings with regards running the plants. In a majority of cases Orège customers will see a return on their investment in less than three years.
